The essence of President AVilsou's Fourteen Points was the self-determina-tion and liberty of the people of smaller nations. Every man’s and evqry woman’s self-determination, the right of choice and x><V'sbnal liberty is threatened by the Prohibitionists. PROHIBIION WOULD BE A CALAMITY. Because (1) it wouljd only prevent legal drinking, but foster sly grogselling and illegal druneknness. 2. It would cost the Dominion £4,500,000 plus £1,500,000 this year, and £1,500,000 every subsequent, year; or £7 10s Id for every- elector in New Zealand. 3. It is the German principle of 1 “Forbidden” extended into New ZeaI land. i 4. It would deprive you of the I prompt aid of port wine or brandy or other alcoholic stimulant in the ease Of sickness. 5. It has proved a failure in NoLicense districts, and has inqreascp the record of crime. 6. The Army doctors rejected only 15(3 mien out bf lover (20p?000 men examined ias unfit) for service by reason of alcoholism. 1 7. The British Government found Regulation quite effective and refused to enact Prohibition. Prohibition in threat Britan would have lost the war. 8. It slanders the New Zealander — solder and civilian —as being inefficient. .9 It would prevent you or your wife having a glass of ale or stout with your meals. 10. It would- lesson the attractiveness of New- Zcialanjd as a tourist resort. 11. It is inspired and financially backed by profiteers, to sejrvo their business ends. 12. lit destroys all individuals ’ “Rights of Choice” and their “SelfDetermination.” .. . . , .:•< 13. It would prevent the issue of State Control ever being put before ) the electors. ' 14. It gives the Police the right of entry into your home any hour, day, or night. Remember many- people have been deprived of their votes by the Prohibition agents’ tactics. You should therefore know that notwithstanding this form of vote-stealing by the Prohibitionists you arc entitled to vote if your name appears on the roll of 1914 or any subsequent toll, or if your I name appealed on the manuscript roll held by the Registrar on your making a declaration in the polling booth on polling day that you are so entitled to vote.
