RUMOUR CAUSES PANIC
WELLINGTON, March 20
The men engaged in discharging cargo on the steamer Westland .stopped work to-day owing to a rumour that there had been a ease of influenza aboard. It appears that two members of the crew wore taken to hospital, but it is stated that neither of the men was suffering from influenza. On hearing of the occurrence the men discharging the Dunsyre, which was alongside the Westland, also stopped work. The" Westland was fumigated, and it was stated, on behalf of the men, that they would resume to-morrow morning. INFLUENZA IN SYDNEY. o ISOLATING ALL SUSPECTS .. SYDNEY, March 21. ■ In reference to the increase of influena it has been officially stated: that suspicious cases reported arc immediately removed to the hospital. Under 50 per cent of the cases prove to be of the pneumonic type. The Government has appointed a commission of three leading medical men to watch the progress of influenza with a view to securing information regarding the cause and treatment or the disease.
