MAY MARCH TO BERLIN
FUTURE EVENTS UNCERTAIN
PARIS, March~lS.
Mr Murdock writes: British intelligence just received from Germany states that the army as a fighting force has ceased to exist. It is immobile through want of transport. Organisation has disappeared and discipline has gone, but there is always the possibility of Schneidemann throwing up his hands and saying: "Occupy the country." This woule mean the overthrow of the Schniectcmann Government, The uprisings oy insurgents form serious troubles. The Allies seem to agree that the marca to Berlin would be easy because the Germans in the occupied districts have proved docile and manageable people. It is agreed that a high percentage of Germans would welcomeAllied occupation involving the Allies ifl, the right with the Bolsheviks. A strong impression, however, prcvafts that Germany after sham arguments aad hysterics, would gobble any terms offered. She is ready to restart her world trade, Factories are filled and organisation perfected, and the people are in the mood to weep with relief when actual peace comes, and food, clothing, and decency arrive again.
