THE LIQUOR REFERENDUM.

NO COUNT PROVIDED FOR

WELLINGTON, this day.

Although Cabinet has reconsidered its decision re the referendum, and will allow such results as are available to be given out the same night, it appears there is no provision in Act calling on any Deputy Returning Officer to count their votes, and to forward them to the Chief Returning Officer at once. This means that while the vote in towns and more compact districts may be available the same evening, in more scattered district.* it may be a day or two before they come to hand. Sir P. Bell is now going into the matter to see if means can be legally found to enable the whole vote to be counted at once.
