BOWLING NOTES.

(B*F B-TTppe.)

The ancient game of bowls is making its way steadily in the lesser centres of population, and just recently our neighbours of Ohakuue have come into line.

They are now just where we were a dozen years ago, and have all their difficulties before them, and they will find that it takes years before a bowling green arrives at a satisfactory playing condition. XU the as their spokesman sJS 1 , they are doing their best among the logs and tussocks. They made their first trip from home yesterday. They had no ‘ambitious motives—they simply came to make their maiden effort, and, if need be, take their gruel cheerfully. They could scarcely have chosen a green more dissimilar than their own if they had looked for it. The degree of keenness attained by the Taibapc green is puzzling to the most, experienced players. As it happened, too, they were pitted against three fairly strong rinks, while the bulk of their team were tyros. However, they had a. good game, ahd‘ thoroughly enjoyed their beating, cherishing the hope that some day they will be able to give us a dusting.

The aggregate score—9s to 30 — looks very formidable on paper, but they had a good game, and got what thev came for.

JUNIOR RINK COMPETITION The second competition for the “Stars,” donated by Mr Neagle. was also played yesterday. JV The first match, played by teams skipped by Mortland and Loader, created great interest, ending in a draw at the 21st head, Mortland winning the tie.

The holders yesterday maintained their grip on the trophies, but the challengers say they are evening again.

A strong contingent of bonders from Hunterville are coming here on St. Patrick’s Day, when our local players will endeavour to level things, up a bit.
