PLAGUE IN NEW ZEALAND.
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN,
IN NEW ZEALAND IF PEOHIBI TION WAS CARRIED AND THE PLAGUE BROKE OUT AGAIN?
CAREFULLY CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING. ALCOHOL FOR INFLUENZA. LONDONN February 1. ,Sir James Cautlic stated that alcohol is the only valuable antidote for the new influenza. Many physicians are prescribing it. (Note. —Sir James Cantlie is the highest English authority on plagues and how to cure and combat them. Sir James is also Surgeon, Seamen’s Hospital, Royal AJlbert Docks, Lecturer on Surgery, London School of Tropical Medicine, and is Plague Officer for the London County Council, as -well as Chief Surgeon, St. John Ambulance Brigade.)
FRESH OUTBREAK OF INFLUENZA.
TREMENDOUS DEATH RATE
LONDON, February 20
There is every indication that the present outbreak of influenza will [likely 'equal /he October 1 [epidemic, which resulted in 150,000 deaths. Hundreds of fresh eases iare hourly reported, the doctors are overworked, and there is a great shortage of nurses.
The outbreak in the South of Ireland continues to spread, with an alarmingly high death rate. Sonic of the .doctors, iare complaining of the scarcity of whisky and brandy. They assert that more spirits would save thousands ;of lives. —"The Times.»»
BRITISH SPIRITS RELEASED,
LONDON, February 21
The Press Bureau states that the British Cabinet has decided that the quantity of spirits to be released is to be increased 50 per cent.
(A subsequent cablegram says the release of spirits to the extent of 50 per cent, was made owing to the urgent representations from doctors and others that more spirits are required to combat the influenza epidemic now raging in England.)
Prohibitionists want to abolish that which all doctors of repute say is the real and only antidote to the plague. Prohibitionists show by their motions that they have no regard for the lives of their frhew-mon. An advocate, when in the pay and service of the Prohibitionists, said she ■would rather let a child die than save its life by giving it brandy. Prohibition ists lo not ch *e if ypu die of plague, provided they can cany Prohibition and abolish that, which would save your life. You must defeat these fanatics. The spirit of tyranny is upon them. You have already hy.d oiie regrettable experience of the plague in ew Zealand. If, therefore, it is necessary for the British Cabinet to take such action (as recited by the cablegram) in England, where licensing exists, how much more necessary is it for you to exercise YOUR VOTE on April 10th, to save the lives of the people in New Zealand and retain the licensed sale of alcoholic stimulants in this Dominion?
You will stand up for FREEDOM. PATRIOTISM, DEMOCRACY, and HUMANITY by Voting for Continuance land striking out the Bottom Line on April 10th. —Advt.
