DE VALERA’S ESCAPE
A PICTURESQUE STORY / J PARIS, March 1. An American interviewer discovered that Be Valera escaped from Lincoln prison through the agency of the Committee of Friends. The committee first planned to rust the armed guard outside the Barbed wire surrounding the exercise yard, but abandoned the plan lest Be Valera should be shot. Irishmen sang Gaelic songs outside the prison, telling Be Valera the method of escape. Be Valera secured the key of the main gate and threw an impression made in bread outside the prison. The committee made a duplicate key and secured the services of a number of Irish girls to fliit ■with the sentries. On a fixed date the girls enticed the sentries 'away from the gate and friends outside opened the gate with the false hey. Be Valera escaped to London while the police were chasing a decoy motor car
