SERIOUS BUSH ACCIDENT.

While Mr G. Williams, bush manager at Cook’s sawmill at Mataroa, was working in the bush yesterday afternoon, at 1 o’clock, a bougl fell from a standing maire tree across his back, felling him to the ground, and inflicting such injuries that rendered, him quite unable to move. Dr Mae-j^*

Diarmid was sent for, and in the meantime a stretcher was improvised and the injured man was got out of the bush. On Dr Mac Diarmi d’s arrival he found the bones of the spine were broken, and he instructed that he was to be removed to the Taihape Hospital. As it was too late, and as there were no means on the spot of bringing Mr Williams to Taihape last night, he was brought in early this morning. He is quite conscious, but hopes of recovery beyond an invalid stage are not entertained. The mill manager (Mr W. P. Hughes) speaks highly of the splendid services rendered to theinjured man by Mr Charles Cleaver with his motor car. He brought Mr. Williams from the bush and placed him on the train en route to Taihape, sparing neither care, time, nor troublein so doing. Mr Williams is married, and has tw*o children.
