The fastest built ship on any of thjo American stocks to-day is the Aberdeen, a wooden vessel of 4000 tons burden, which started on her trial trip just 28 days after the keel was laid. There will be practice of the Taihape Municipal Band in the Bandroom on Sunday, at 10.30 a.m. A full aattendance is requested in view of the engagement of the Bana to play at the Show on Wednesday. On Saturday, at 2 p.m., F. Ward and Co., will sell at their Tui Street Mart, a large consignment of fruit, including apples, pears, plums, and peaches, besides a quantity of farm produce. They will also offer two large hampers that were packed for men at the front,, a huge quantity of biscuits cakes and a variety of other articles.
Mrs. Batt, of The Springs Weka Street, has first class plums for sale in any quantity, at 51bs for Is.
The meeting of the Tradesmen's Association lapsed for want of a quorum; the next meeting takes place on Monday evening, 24th Feb.
Owing to the Rangitikei Show taking place on Wednesday next, all Taihape shops will close at 12 noon on that day instead of on Thursday.
During the past two years the sum of £225 has been raised by the sale of flowers at the Otaki railway station for Red Cross purposes. In all a total of over £4OO has been • raised since the beginning of the war by the sale of flowers.
Cabinet's proposals for peace celebrations will be sent to all local governing bodies throughout the Dominion, states the Hon. G. W. Russell, Minister for Internal Affairs, The medal that is to be presented will be on the sa'me lines as a modal issued in commemoration of the part taken by New Zealand in the Boer War. Approximately, there art 225,100 children attending the schools of the Dominion—namely, public schools, 190,000; registered private schools, 18,500; secondary, including technical and day schools, 11,000; native schools, 5000; industrial schools, 600. It is intended to give the medal to all these children,' and in addition to the 225,1100 there will be another 15,000 medals for children who have not yet attained school age. so that they may retain a memento of the great event. A design for the medal will be prepared immediately.
