Burton's story of his recent drive across Australia in a Hupmobile: —• "xVftor this hill we had plenty more sand. Yes. tons of it; but over and up all of it the Hupp went like a scalded cat, till we came to Narlaby tank, and the end of the f.O miles of sandy desert. By the way. it was 3.15 p.m. on our arrival at the Narlaby tank, thus covering the 30 odd miles of heavy sand hills in 2 hours 20 minutes, which, to say the very least, speaks very highly of the pulliijjg of that Hupmobile motor car. On the previous record this same portion of the track took hours and hours." This great trans-Australian trip proves again the phenomenal stamina and power of the Hupmobile. The total distance from Fremantle to Sydney was 2677 miles of deserts, washouts, boulders and sar/dhills. The Hupp covered the distance in 7 days 2 hours 17 minutes. No spares were needed.
