INFLUENZA IN AUSTRALIA.
VIRULENCE NOT ABATING. MELBOURNE, February 14. There fere 19 deaths from influenza in Melbourne yesterday, making the total 283. All licensed premises were closedTTbday. The superintendent of the Melbourne Hospital states that the epidemic shows no signs of abatement. He considers the Board of Health figures for the death-rate are inaccurate. During the past five days there have been 150 deaths, which is six times the rate they estimate. SYDNEY, February 14. Two more deaths from* 1 influenza occurred to-day, ' ' In order to protect Queensland the Government has refused to issue railway tickets to passengers beyond Glen Innes unless a declaration is signed that the passengers are not going to Queensland. The State Cabinet has decided to modify the mask regulations, permitting the discarding of the mask in open spaces where no crowds are congregated. The regulations have also been modified, allowing open-air church services and meetings. The other restrictions are unchanged. NURSES FOR AUSTRALIA. WELLINGTON, this day. The Hon. G. W. Russell states Cabinet cannot approve of sending fifty nurses to Australia. Twenty-five are to leave by the Moeraki on Tuesday to assist in the epidemic fight.
