THE WOES OF WILHELM.
LONDON, January 30
A message from The Hague says that the former Kaiser's 69th birthday .brought him numerous gifts, tokens, messages, and bouquets from Germany. The latter were carefully examined for bombs before being presented. A Moravian pastor preached a speccial sermon at Amerongen Castle Chapel, choosing as his text Romans xii., 12: "Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation, and continuing instant in prayer," whereupon the ex-Kaiser wept bitterly. He has greatly changed, and wears a long, grey beard. The famous moustache now droops. He stoops in walking, and resembles a venerable pilgrim. He has become very religious. Wilhelm is greatly worried ,by American journalists seeking interviews. One recently sent a letter demanding an interview, adding, "Your silence cannot last for ever." The ex-Kaiser refused on tSe grounds that he was no longer in active political life.
