INFLUENZA IN AUSTRALIA.
f N 0 SPREADING IN MELBOURNE. 22 DEATHS YESTERDAY. MOBILISATION OF (DOCTORS. MELBOURNE, eFbruary 13. There were 182 fresh cases of influenza yesterday, making the total 2915 and 22 deaths, making a total of 232. The Government has closed all hotels within a radius of 15 miles of the city. Tile Federal Government has ignored the appeals of the New South Wales Government, and continues to grant shore leave to returning N.S.W. troops. Mr. Watt issued a Anal appeal to the State Governments to unite with the Commonwealth in uniform acceptable measures to prevent the spread of the epidemic. Mr. Bowser, Premier of Victoria, promised a "deputation from the Labour party to place before Cabinet proposals for a moratorium and the mobilisation of the medical profession. SYDNEY, February 13.
The Watersiders’ Federation refuses to work ships coming from infected States unless granted double rates of pay. Twenty-two new influenza cases, including five from Corbwa, were reported to-day. The men from the Argyllshire have agreed to remain in quarantine at the Cricket Ground for three days. The Government has strongly protested to the Federal Government against allowing New Sduth Wales troops ashore at Melbourne. BRISBANE, February 13.
Jhe State Government lias issued regulations prohibiting vessels which have not undergone proper quarantine berthing at the city wharves. The Nestor, with 1100 troops aboard, has arrived, but the Government refused to supply a pilot, stating that it would give no facilities towards landing troops. The Lytton watersiderg refused to work ships not declared clean by the State authorities. FIGURES MOUNTING UP. SYDNEY, February 11. There were eight eases of influenza and one - death to-day. Twenty tram cars and a n umber of railway carriages have been fitted as inhalation chambers and are ready for emergency. MELBOURNE, February 11. There were twenty deaths, and 4 cases -were admitted to the hospital. It is believed the figures do not represent the true position, as many eases are not reported.
INFLUENZA IN ENGLAND. OUTBREAK OF SEVERE FORM Received 5.50 a.m. LONDON, February ,11. Viscount French is severely ill with influenza. There is a marked increase in the severe type of influenza pneumonia in London, medically attributed to exposure in the traffic queues during the strike. The cold weather continues, averaging fifteen to thirty-two degrees of frost throughout the United Kingdom.
