Herr Ebert, spsaking at the opening of the National Assembly at Weimar, said that the people of Germany were prepared to endure the worst privations rather than to accept dishonour. They had woo. the right of self-deter-mination within The country and could not abandon the right. The Government had entered upon an evil heritage. He appealed to the people To work diligently to create new standards, otherwise ruin was inevitable. He had confidence in the indestructible, creative German spirit. Mr. David, the Social Democratic Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs upon election to thcrpresjdency of the National Assembly, said that war and the revolution had destroyed all government. There must be a new structure replacing the old system. The intention was to establish a democracy based on equality. Citizens expected the Assembly to demand a peace based exactly on President Wilson's fourteen points. MILITARY RESURRECTION IMPROBABLE. Received 9.20 a.m. LONDON, February 10
M. Pichon, interviewed, said he did not believe in any resurrection in Germany from - .a military point of viow. Militarism was not quite dead there still being large forces, but they were being watched very closelv. PRINTERS STRIKE. FOR MORE PAY. Received 10 a,m. AMSTERDAM, Feb 10 Owing to the refusal of the employers to grant increased wages and eight hours a day, a general strike of printers has begun. The only paper published is the official Socialist organ. SPARTACISTS LOSE HEAVILY AT BREMEN. Received 10 a.m. AMSTERDAM, Feb. 9 Officials, including poITceJ" at Weisel, struck as a protest against the Spartacus methods. Sparticists hold the Town Hall, which is strongly guarded The city is without water or gas. At Bremen the fighting resulted in over one thousand casualties. The Spartacists state their defeat was due to refusal of crews of three Spartaeus torpedoers at WilhclmsEafer to dfcme to their assistance.
