The President of Portugal, in a message to the "Daily Chronicle," state;ihe only Royalist success was at Oporto and certain small northern localities. The republican army, advancing against the rebels, forced them to retreat, taking Braganza and Viseu easily. The enemy at Avoiro' suffered heavily. The navy remains entirely loyal, blockading the Royalists with fatal effect.
