Major Schultz, Captain van Reimsdyk, and Captain van Duim left Sydney for Java recently, after having completed the purchase of 550 military horses for the Dutch Government there. They also dispatched 60 racehorses, for the people of Java are almost as keen enthusiasts of the turf as the Australians. Further cases of chronic rheumatism being treated with pneumonic-influenza vaccine are reported in the Sydney papers, A member of a well-known business firm, who had been a sufferer from rheumatism for the past 20 years, has been under treatment for three weeks. After the second injection he was able to discard the walking stick which he had used for over 15 years. An ardent worker in the Taranaki district during the epidemic has just received an account for 3d from the Taranaki Hospital Board (sayte the Herald) for three asperin tablets. It is interesting to note that this worker, whose residence Is in New Plymouth, went into the Tariki district to assist the settlers there. He used up all his own asperins whilst out there, and when he himself was taken ill sent into t£wn for a fresh supply, but could only get three. He gave his time, and his wife, who is a trained nurse, put in three weeks in the hospital nursing. He broke his thermometer, which cost him 7s 6d, and supplied his own disinfectant, costing 2s 6d. Incidentally, of course, the Hospital Board expended lid postage in forwarding the account.

The Minister for Native

states that his department has practically completed its purchase of 12,136 acres of land in the Rangitoto-Tuhuai native land district in the King Country. Negotiations for other purchases are pending. Representatives of the Government are also buying land near Tokaanu, south of Lake Taupo, where about 5000 acres have been already acquired.

Further progress in standardised boots is reported by the MTuistcr in charge of the Board of Trade. S, MacDonald adds that he understands a majority of the tanners in are in agreement with this plan, and will facilitate the completion of the scheme.
