HE SHOOK HANDS WITH THE KING.
In a letter to Ms father in Melbourne a young lieutenant, who went to Buckingham Palace to have his Military Cross handed to him by His Ma-. j'sty the King, relates the following incident: —“After the King had shaken hands with me the following conversation took place. I said: ‘Sir may I bo. permitted (he looked as though ho didn’t know what was coming next) to mention that this is the second ocean sion on which I have had the privilege of shaking hand with your Majesty* (relief expressed on his countenance). The King: ‘Oh, on what occasion was that?’ I: ‘Perhaps you Majesty will remember presenting the prizes to the public schools of Victoria in Exhibition Building at Melbourne.’ Thej King; ‘Yes, did you get a prize I*' (quite interested). I: ‘Yes, Sir, I r&I ceived some prizes, and I was one o£ the two boys who presented bouquets! .to Her Majesty the Queen and thef • Countess of Hopctown.’ The King: ‘I am very pleased to meet you again—-I will shake hands with you again* l (which he did most cordially). His face! tibeamed, he seemed very pleased.”
