INSANITARY CONDITIONS ON A ; STEAMSHIP.
Received 11.30 a.m. LONDON, January 31. An Australian sergeant in a letter to the “British Australasian,” writing from the Miltiades, says the conditions in the third class arc a disgraco to the Australian Government. The sanitary arrangements are shocking, and the drinking water tastes of salt, and is j condemned by the doctors. There have I been three premature birth already [ The food is poor, and husbands aboard arc only allowed to see their wive two hours daily.
GRAND FLEET TO VISIT AMERICA.

It is understood an imposing section of the Grand Fleet will shortly visit America, under Admiral Beatty. SALVAGING BARBED WIRE. Received 11.30 a.m. LONDON, January 31. The Army Salvage Committee is salvaging 100,000 tons of barbed wire in France, worth £5 per ton, by means of a specially designed machine. LAND FOR GERMAN SOLDIERS. Received 10.30 a.m. COPENHAGEN, January 31. The German Government is drafting a Bill providing land for soldiers. They may confiscate estates bought by profiteers, as well as estates transferred several timss within the last 20 years, aTfeo one-tenth of other large estates.
