VALEDICTORY.
At the close of the anniversary services yesterday in the Methodist Church, Rev. W. H. Hocking took the opportunity of bidding good-bye to Mr P. E. Spicer on the eve of his departure for Hamilton. The reverend gentleman said he was only voicing
the feelings of the many friends Mr Spicer had made among the" congregation when he said they were extremely sorry to lose Mm after Ms splendid services to the church during the last three and a half years: Mr. Spicer had been forward in every good work, and his impending departure was a distinct loss not only to the church but to the community. He asked Mr Spicer to accept- a presentation as a tangible mark jbf fcnd good will from the local Methodist connection.
Mr Spicer, who was taken completely by surprise, thanked tke donors for tlieir prcsexit and tke expressions of goodwill wkick accompanied it. His work in connection wit) the church had been very pleasar' and bis association with tbe little ones (and be glanced round tb'e many bright little faces who were watching him) had bees a real labou'r of love.
