PUKEOKAHU PICNIC.
A SUCCESSFUL OUTING. Favoured with fine weather on Wednesday the annual picnic at Pukeokahu was the most successful and enjoyable yet given by the residents of this district. With everything gratis, and a hearty welcome extended to all, this is not to be wondered at. Pukeokabu's annual outing has always been a most popular one, and has been looked forward to. Taihape was Wt'U represented, a considerable- number of moto. cars, motor lorries, and otiier means of conveyance streaming (along the-, road. An energetic committee, consisting of Messrs. W. Beuck (secretary), E. Gilbert, A. K. Overton, G. Dunban, A. Anderton, H. Brickland, T. Gilbert. C. Eyles, W. Dooie, tv". White and G. Anderson had charge of N the function! and it was to their united endeavours that the picnic was such an outstanding success. The children were particularly well catered for in the way of amusements, and Messrs. Bench and Doole, among their other numerous duties, saw to it that the children had a good time. Among those interested spectators present were quite a number from Tiriraukawa and surrounding districts, and between comparing notes with numerous friends about wool clips and prices, turnips and winter feed and future prospects, found time to take a keen interest in the various events. The most interesting events of the day for adults were the jumping competitions, and these were closely contested, bringing out some good work "over the sticks" by the various competitors .Following are fhe results of the various events:—

Boys' Races. —Ist event, E. Dohcrty i 1, W. Jones 2; 2nd event, T. Gilbert 1, j H. Brewer 2; 3rd event, B. Anderton 1, D. Treadwell 2; 4th. event, Fleet 1, Hurley 2. Married Men's Race. —J. Kilkolly.l, Kahu 2. There were seven entries. Harding was first past the post, but was disqualified for running outside the finishing tape. Won by a head. 100 Yards' Handicap. —F. Bcuck 1, Booth 2. Maiden Pony Jumping.—Mr. S. Troy's Trooper 1, Mr. Murphy's S.bellrock 2: There were five entries. Open Hunters' Competition (Miles' Challenge Cup).—Mr. T. Bradley's Loafer 1, S. Troy's Larry 2. There were 10 entries. There was a splendid exhibition of jumping between the first three horses. Tula event carr.'es with it the Miles' Challonge Cup, to be won three times at intervals or twice in succession. Previous winner: A. K. Overton/s Garrison: 1917, Beuck's Bob; 1918, A. K. Overton's Garrison; 1919, T. Cradleys Loafer. Ladies' Nail Driving Companion--Mrs. Broom 1, M.'.?. Miles 2. Won after an interesting Voidest between 10 competitors. Chain-stepping. —Mr. Harding-1 who stepped the exast distance. There were 30 contescAir.s. Pony Jumpers (maiden). —Pinis Awhcna 1, D. Jones' nearest 2, Ratahemas 3. There were 3 ..mined. There was a fine exhibition of hurdling among the ponies, with llzth difference between the placed h'jrsos. The Taihape Band, under Bandmaster Hartley, rendered a splendid musical programme during the afternoon, which was much appreciated by those j present, and added considerably to the I day's enjoyment.
