DUNEDIN, January 18

Replying to a protest of Dunedin members of Parliament against an increase in the price of bread, the Hon. TV. D. S. MacDonald has promised, when the. matter of the new flour prices is under consideration, to ask the Board of Trade, to submit a report on the best method of preventing an increase in bread prices. Mean time, the Minister said, it is unlikely there will be any increase till IS f h March.

In the event of a license being granted, he made a suggestion that no liquor should be sold for consumption off the premises. A motion that the application be refused was supported by Messrs J. W. McEwan, J. Cotton, and W. Wearne. An amendment, that the application be granted subject to the condition that men from the military camps in hospital uniform be not supplied with liquor was voted for by Messrs. TV, Cotton, *W. Welch, and the chairman (Mr. Riddell). thus resulted, and Mr, Riddell gave his casting vote in favour of the amendment. The application was therefore granted subject to the condition mentioned, 1
