FOOTBALL.

o GREAT ACTIVITY AT HOME. Received 11.40 a.m. LONDON, January 15. As Rugby Union and Northern Union players freely played together in army matches during the war period it was anticipated in some Quarters the Rugby Union would permit a eompTomise with the Northern Union after the war, but the committee last night passed a resolution refusing to modify the professional regulations beyond allowing the present position to continue until the end of the season. There is every prospect of a great Rugby 'tournament to wind ;up the season, the New Zealanders’ activity inspiring the British forces to find their strongest teams. The Air Force has prepared an extensive series of trial games. A committee has been appointed to choose an army team to meet the New Zealanders on March 15th.
