SPARTACUS DEFEAT IN BERLIN CAPTURED TROOPS SHOT. LONDON, January 15. A Berlin wireless report states that Spartacus strongholds in the Berlin Press quarter were cleared after a sharp battle. The casualties were high, and were increased by the Spartacus rebels court-martially . and shooting Government troops, which necessitated reprisals. The Spartacus rebels evacuated several buildings in the newspaper quarter of Berlin on Sunday night. They departed unmolested after laying down their arms. RIOTING IN DRESDEN. AAMSTERDAM, January 15 The Spartacists at Dresden tried to rush the "Yolks Zeitung" offices, but Governnient troops repulsed them. They also tried to capture the Guildhall, and were again reputed. They were ejected from the "Kreuz Zeitung" offices, but overturned the news carts and burned the contents. Bolsheviks. at St.uttga.rt captured the Town Hall, and tumultuous scenes followed all night, there being much firing and some casualties. POLITICS IN WURTEMBURG Received 9.15 a.m. BERNE, January 16. A coalition of Socialists, Republicans, and Democrats obtained 90 seats ; out of 150 for the election of the Wu rternburg Consitituent Assembly, based on universal suffrage. The four main groups are, broadly, the Consesvativcr, the Centralists, (the and the Socialists, but all are sailing under new flags. The Majority Socialists' programme emphasises that the party only supported a defensive war. The Independents will co-operate with the Moderate Socialists at Munich, but not in Berlin, where the Independents include a more or less strong Left Wing, namely the Communists under Liebknccht. The Liberals have also had a split. Their left wing, which is the strongest, comprising the German Democratic party and the real Liberals from the former National Liberal Party, while the Right Wingcomprises the majority of the former National Liberals, some Conservatives and Radicals. This wing calls itself the German People's Party. The mail plank of the Left Wing Liberals is a republic based on the sovereignty of the people. The Right Wing pleads for capitalistic interests. The Centralists now call themselves the Christian People's Party, and, while upholding Catholic interests. are generally democratic. The old Conservative Party includes Christian Socialists. Pan-Germians. Fajthorljandors, and Antisemitcs, ami calls itself the German National People's Party. It adheres to idea of a nionarchv and aims at a bloc with a centre. RESULT OF BAVARIAN ELECTIONS. AMSTERDAM, Jan. 15. The primary elections for the Bavarian National Assembly resulted in a Bourgeois majority of Independents and Socialists.
