The Minister has informed the Loco Association, which hopes to meet him about February 12th, that he proposes to draft the demanded schedule, which, if approved by Cabinet and Parliament, will operate from April Ist.

The Secretary says it is hoped some indication will be given by the Minster as to the direction his proposals will take towards removing the men's grievances, especially with regard to hours of work, etc., before the delegates take any action with regard to the secret ballot which is demanded by the various branches is over. The Minister's statement will do much towards relieving the feelings of the most militant members. He adds: Owing to the recent attitude taken up by members it will now be quite impossible for the Executive Council to accept or refuse any proposals made by the Minister. They will require to be ratified by the members before acceptance or rejection. The while studiously avoiding anything which will dislocate industries in New Zealand will urge upon the 'Government the necessity of improving the lot of the locomotive men in New Zealand.
