CASUALTIES ONE THOUSAND Received 11.10 a.m. LONDON, January 12 The Daily Express’ Berlin correspondent, telegraphing on Friday, reported a fierce attack at dawn, with hand grenades, against the Reichstag building, failed. The recent fighting is more severe than in Petrograd. The casualties are estimated at one thousand. Parts of the capital are without water or light. The heaviest fighting occurred (during the recapture of the Tageblatt office. Herr Mossc, the proprietor, refused permission to use artillery against the building, therefore the Government troops attacked with machine guns, to which the Spartacuscrs replied. The troops thereupon brought up a tank and smashed in the doors. The building was only captured after a strenuous fight, in which an armoured car and storming grenade party participated. Over three hundred, Spartacus defenders mostly, were killed and wounded. Spartacuscrs and Independents now control Spandau, where there arc many munition workers.

LIEBKNECHT KILLED. LONDON, January 12 The Evening News Berlin correspondent reports that Liebknecht was killed in street fighting.
