INFLUENZA ON TRANSPORT. COMMITTEE’S REPORT. WELLINGTON, this day. The Parliamentary Committee’s interim report on the epidemic which occurred on the transport which carried the 40th Reinforceme/nts states that the evidence was limited to that of Mrs J. R. Gibbons (extracts from letters of soldiers- and others) and officers of the Defence Department, as no officers or men of the Fortieth had returned. The report does (not support the statements that conditions on the vessel were worse than on other transports DEATH OF RETURNED , SOLDIER AUCKLAND, this day. Gordon Henderson, 30, a returned soldier, was found dead in bed this morning at Onehunga. He had been gassed at the front and suffered from influenza after his return.
ARRIVAL OF AMERICAN - BARQUE WANGANUI, this day. The American barque Narwhal arrived late last night from San Francisco direct, after a voyage of 78 days. On arrival she received the first news of the armistice, which was greeted with enthusiasm. The Narwhal brings a large consignment of case oil for a local merchant.
