THE GERMAN WAY.
HOW HUN AUTHORITIES DEAL WITH STRIKERS. i _____ Speaking at the Grafton Galleries on his experiences at Ruhlcben Mr Ernest Pyke, who was interned for 2>l years, told several stories bearing upon. the war pinch in Berlin, A German woman told him she would have to | make her next dress out of a. pair of curtains. He met Georges Hackensehmidt, the famous wrestler, who used to weigh 18st., now a mere' shadow, who complained that he had 27 cards entitling him to 27 different rations. "I can't get any, and the only thing I can do will be Co eat the cards." Mr Pyke recalled how Germany dealt with strikers. "One day a party of strikers marched past the camp. That night rows of machine guns were trained on the road, and when tbe strikers returned that way, 400 of them were killed and wounded. I clonf advocate such drastic measures here, but strikes like this, at a time when the British Empire is in danger, are terrible things to contemplate."
