NEW ZEALANDERS' PLIGHT. ESCAPING FROM AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY, January 2. Arrangements have been made totake 100 Now Zealand passengers by the Durham, sailing in a few days. Some are signing on .as waiters and waitresses. Eight berths on board the Port Lyttleton were balotted for, thus relieving the most urgent cases. Several New Zealand Anzacs are included. SYDNEY PRISON SENSATION. ESCAPE BY GERMAN INTERNEES. SYDNEY, January 2. Another prison sensation is reported. During the night, four German internees Seamen, Carre, Shallock, and' Reiser —escaped from the detention barracks at the old Darlinghurst gaol. They improvised a rope of blankets, scaled the high walls, and got clear away. A mysterious part of the affair is that the doors of their separate empty cells were found securely locked and barred, also another door through which they had made their exit. Three of the escapees were prominent athletes. Carre made previous escapes from detention camps. Later. —It is reported that Reiser was captured in the city this afternoon.
