WELL PRESSMAN DEAD. WELLINGTON, this day. The death is announced from .Napier of Mr. Peter Dinwiddie, managing director of the "Hawke's Bay Heru. aged eighty-one. He was a Maori War veteran, and for over fifty years connected with the "Herald." , The late Mr. Dinwiddie had been connected with the paper for over 50 years, and was a Maori War veteran, who had seen considerable service. He was an ex-President of the North Island Bowling Association. His death will he widely regretted, especially in Hawke's Bay, where he was universally respected. SERGT. J. GRANT, V.C. WELLINGTON, this day. Base Records has received particulars of an incident for which Ihe Victoria Cross was awarded to 10/2950, Sergt. John Gifray Grant, of New Zealand E.F., fofgallantry in the field of action. At Bancourt, on the Ist September, under point blank fire at 20 yards, he rushed the enemy posts to right and left, showing conspicuous bravery. It is recorded that throughout the operations lasting three days he set a splendid example to all. His next of kin is his mother, Mrs. J. Grant, Princess Street, Hawera.
