MORE MUSIC NEEDED.

EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS. "I have long believed that there can be no right education without music. Our education has not been as full and well rounded as it might have been, because we have neglected to some extent this finer type of training" — this is the opinion of the Hon. J. D. Maclean, Minister for Education, British Columbia. "Next to reading, writing and arithmetic, I place music as the most practical and essential of all things. In the home, around the fireside, in the church, in the Sunday-schools, we all turn to music. "As to the future. of music in the schools, one must admit that here is the key to a true and better appreciation of the art on the part of the rising generation. Our public schools must get more consideration in the matter of musical education, "as it is only through litis medium that we shall be able to unite in Interesting the masses in this grent subject of music in the schools and music in tTfe . community. ! "Realising the powerful influence j which music is exercising in the lives j of our soldiers and among those who j have been stricken with affliction in j this terrible struggle for the freedom \ of the world, one does not hesitate to commend the cause of music to those who have not yet made its acquaintance. "What the people need to-day is more music!"
