For the 24 hour? previous to noon to-day it has been raining almost without intermission. Snow fell last night at Waiouru and Waimarino, and with the shifting round of the wind to the south wintry conditions now prevail. A slip occurred on the Main Trunk Line last night, about 3 miles north of Mataroa. The train which left Taihapc at 5.50 p.m, ran into it and an engine and truck were derailed. Before intimation of the mishap had come through to Taihape, %he north bound express had left, and was accordingly hung up. A works train; with jacks and other tools went out to deal with the derailment, but it was well on towards morning before the mail train got through, passing the train bound south at Waiouru. The passengers in the mail train had a most unpleasant experience. The lino is now clear and railway traffic is running as usual. The section of line between Mangaweka and Hihitahi is causing the railway officials much anxiety, and. it is feared that if the weather does not soon take up, there will inevitably be more slips coming down. News came through as we wore going to press that the traffic road between Mangaweka is blocked in several places by slips. A big washout on the Moawhango Road took place last night, stopping traffic. ' The Koeke Road is also blocked by slips, and is impassable. The Mangawka To Kapua Road is completely blocked, several slips of considerable magnitude having come down during the last 24 hours.
