CRUELTY TO OBJECTORS. ... WANGANU! STAFF REMOVED. WELLINGTON, Dec 6. Members of the House of Representatives lost their opportunity of discussing the report on the ill-treat-ment of men in the Wanganui detention harracks. The report was tabled in the usual manner, but the membersdid not seem to hear the Minister's statement as to what he was doing. The matter, however, was raised again to-day.' , Mr. L. M. Isitt .Christchurch North, asked the Minister what, punishment had been meted out to the men responsible for the cruelties. Sir James Allen said that the report of the commissioner had been adopted, and one of the main items of the report was that the staff should be removed. The staff had been removed, with the exception of the commandant, who had been delayed on account of the epidemic. As soon as possible he would be removed. Mr. Isitt: Are they dismissed, or merely transferred to another position? The Minister: Ido not know about that. The order was to Temove them. Mr. H. Holland (Grey) asked the Minister whether he would lay on the table of the House all the papers.in connection with Lieut. Cramp ton's term of office at Samoa. The Minister said that he would be glad to table any papers which were not confiden- ~ tial. FEILDING RACES POSTPONED. FEILDING, this day. '& The Feilding Jockey Club has re- W ceived an official notification that owihg to the report of the Health Officer the Health Department can not permit races on the 13th inst. The Club has decided to postpone the meeting till January 11, if that date is available.
