RAPID ABATEMENT REPORTED. WELLINGTON, this day. Influenza deaths in the Wellington Hospital 'for flhe .twenty-four frours ended noon yesterday totalled three. Two hospitals have been closed. Telegrams from the country districts indicated a rapid abatement of the epidemic. Doctors and inedical students are to be removed to more infected areas for work, especially among the Maoris. Camp reports also show a rapid decrease among the soldiers, only 144 remaining in hospital in Featherstcn. Trentham, and Awapuni. AT MASTERTON. MASTER-TON, this day. Since the influenza outbreak sixtytwo deaths have occurred. The cpi- ' domic is now abating. The relief fund totals £2500. AT PAHIATUA, PAHIATUA, this day. The epidemic is now in hand. Total admissions to the emergency hospital are 67, deaths in hospital 11, remaining 21. Total deaths in the district, 26. AT TAIHAPE, Beyond chronicling the fact that the improvement of the last few days is being well maintained, there is nothing to report. The patients in all the hospitals are making good progress, with two exceptions, which are critical cases. There has been no further mortality during the last twenty-four hours. The band of workers, while always on the qui vive, now have fue to “swop”' experiences gained since the epidemic started. There is not so far the slightest indication of a recrudescence of the malady. The Mayor’s Fund is within £lO 19s of £3OO, and if anyone whose sympathy has not yet crystallised into £ s. d., will make up the balance to £3OO, the Mayor will have pleasure in recording the fact in to-morrow’s paper.
