MORE SOLDIERS' DEATHS RECORDED.
WELLINGTON, this day. Thirteen more soldiers' deaths are reported. INFLUENZA AT SAN FRANCISCO. DEATHS THREE AN HOUR. The officers 'of the Kurow, which •has arrived at Wellington from. San Francisco, state that the influenza epidemic is causing a fearful dislocation, of trade at- the Californian port. A lot of ships-.arc laid up there owing to* the ravages of the disease among seafarers. ; . \ Business at Francisco, with a population of about 800,000 people, was almost at a standstill. The victims were dying at the rate of three per hour. Three thousand new cases were reported on the day the Kurow left there. Every person, under a penalty .of 500 dollars (£100) or six months' imprisonment, was required to wear a respirator when in thestreet or business places. A "New Zealand Times" representative was shown one of these respirators, which' is a gauze cloth cover for the mouth and nose with linen bands attached to be tied "at the back of the neck. The spectacle of everybody wearing respirators in the streets was an extraordinary one. All theatres, churches, picture shows, etc., were closed, but the drinking saloons were permitted to remain open. o
