KEEPING WELLINGTON CITY CLEAN. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MAYOR AND MINISTER. WELLINGTON, this day. The Mayor says the Council’s legal adviser states that existing powers are insufficient to enable the Council to control the cleanliness of the city. They could not condemn houses, but could only report to the Health Department. The Minister of Health took up a different attitude, and declared the Council had power. It was highly necessary to settle the matter, and prevent overlapping between the Hospital Board, City Council and the Health Department. The Board also passed a resolution against the return of the German colonies.
