LOCAL AND GENERAL.
An Ordcr-in-Council lias been issued fixing the price of fish, fruit, and vegetables. A baby’s shoe has been found, and may be obtained on application at this office. It is notified in the stock auction column that no stock sales will be held at Mangaweka until further notice. Privates G. Belk, of Utiku, and F. 'W. Brown, of Raetihi, formerly posted as missing, are now reported prisoners of war. The proclamation fixing the maximum prices of organes and lemons at threepence each has been extended to the whole Dominion.
The latest Parliamentary additions to the sick list are D. Buick, T. W. Rhodes, J. A. Young, Hon. E. W. Alison and the Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald.
The position respecting the Dominion delegation to the reace Congress is rather embarrassing. The party leaders'ought really to be on their way to England, but abnormal circumstances preclude their immediate departure. There is a strong advocacy that only the Premier should gefe meantime.
A private letter from an Aucklander, who is visiting the United States, refers to the prevalence of influenza all over the Californian coast. This was written before the last trip across of the Niagara. Amongst other matters the writer states that in one camp no less than 17,000 American soldiers were atttacked with influenza on the same day.
