IMPROVING AT OHAKUNE.
"I believe we have the influenza epidemic now in hand," was the welcome message flashed along the wires this morning by Mr Swindells, the local health officer. Drs. Peltham and Mitchell have recovered sufficiently to renew their efforts in fighting the scourge. They also have the assistance of .a mcuical student. Inhalation chambers have been installed at Eangataua, and two arc no v.- in operation at Ohakune and two at Ractihi, through which a large number of people are passing, with very obvious benefit. It is a painful thing to have to chronicle the death of Nurse Drummond;- who has been fighting the epidemic ever since it started. She was taken ill. and succumbed. Her name will live in the 'annals of Ohakunc as a noble woman who offered up her life on the altar of duty and for suffering humanity. So far it is estimated that twenty deaths hvve occurred as a result, of the epidemic. Sergeant Major Forrest is in Ohakuno helping the authorities to fight the malady, and has been of very real assistance to those who have often had far more to "cTo than be expected of human nature.
