INFLUENZA FIGHTING
'At a : public meeting convened Jay the Mayor yesterday afternoon, th. 6 influenza problem was discussed, and a prompt course of action was decided upon. After the meeting closed every house in Taihape was. visited and the situation as to the epidemic? ascertained and noted. The visiting brigade subsequently met, when it was ascertained that there were only three places where anything of a serious nature obtained. An inhalation chamber was in action and crowds of people underwent that disinfection treatment. Assistance in the way of nurses and food was promptly sent to the three houses where the whole 1 family was down., but there is still a serious shortage of willing workers. It is desired to open a hospital close at hand, ensuring medical attendance, but to do so there must be a dozen more volunteers as nurses. When it is realised that such a hospital may result in the saving of many lives, there should be no lack of the requisite assistance. If workers need payment, the money will be forthcoming; the momentous fact is that the dreaded contagion is in the town and no one is sure that he or she will he immune. It is everyone's duty to lend a hand in stamping it out by a system of disinfection that will result iri the whole town being immune as long as that system is kept in action. Too much cannot be said in praise of the work achieved yesterday, which Has resulted in an information bureau being opened in the Town Hall, where every new sufferer should be reported at the earliest moment. If every man and woman will report cases coming tc their notice .and otherwise assTSt the visiting brigade that has been Instituted many, perhaps very many, valuable lives will be saved.
