o The influenza epidemic has reached such proportions that the ordinary •hospital accommodation of the Borough is overtaxed. It is proposed to utilise the Presbyterian Hall—which has been kindly placed at the disposal of the authorities—as a temporary hospital, provided sufficient nursing staff can be obtained. Professional training is not, essential. I invite all those ladies who are able and willing to assist in this crisis, to meet at my office at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday), the 12th inst, or to send me their names if unable to attend the meeting. IMPORTANT URGENT j PUBLIC NOTICE. In view of the serious epidemic how prevalent in the Dominion, every local authority is required to take urgent and immediate steps to secure the safest possible sanitary conditions in its district, and as part thereof to maintain at some central place supplies of disinfectant ‘for speedy issue to the public; also to make it widely known thjt the public should not at present travel beyond their own locality. Every local authority is advised to make ready to have a standard influenza remedy, available for speedy issue to the public on demand. The public are requested to carefully read any advice regarding influenza r as from time, to time may be published, and to each in his own capacity to give every assistance by improving the sanitary conditions of his own house, and by taking all precautions necessary to combat the outbreak. In pursuance of the powers conferred on me by section 18 of “The Public Health Act, 1908,” being authorised in that behalf hy/ the GovernorGeneral, I, Michael Herbert Watt, the District Health Officer at Wellington, do hereby require all places and buildings in the Wellington Health District set out or referred to in the Schedule below to be isolated by being closed for one week from the date of this notice, and during the period of such isolation no person shall enter any such building save for the purpose of cleansing or disinfecting the same, or for some other purpose directed by me. SCHEDULE All Theatres, Moving Picture Theatres, Dancing Halls, Billiard Saloons, Concert Rooms, Shooting Galleries, and other Buildings or Rooms used as places for Race Meetings, Shows, or exhibitions' of any kind.
