SERIOUS LANDSLIPS

o IN THE MANAGWEKA DISTRICT* It is reported-, that the recent heavy rains have cau#d a number of landslips between Hunterville and Taihape, and in numerous instances the regrassing of the land affected will be very costly. In addition, a heavy Itemjft will be the repairs to fences. A remarkable escape from damage was that of Mr. W. Liddicoat’s farm at Mangaweka, large tracts of land around the house having slipped away. The property opposite, owned by Mr. W. Lissette, moved clean through Mr. Liddicoat’s like an avalanche. Largo trees were rooted up. The comer of an orchard was carried away, and many chains of fencing and outbuildings were destroyed. On the other side of the valley six slides occurred, the land moving to the lowest levels. Practically all the roads about the district are blocked.
