The New York Times’ Washington correspondent states it is learned through Latin-American sources that the West Coast Republics of South .America favour the elimination of the Gbrinan influence from the Pacific. INDIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION SIMLA, Oct 30. The report of the Industrial Commission, which has been sitting for two years, has been published. THE GOLD STANDARD. LONDON, Oct 30. The Cunliffe Committee’s interim report states that it is imperative that the conditions necessary for the maintenance of an effective gold standard should be restored without delay after the war. To effect this Government borrowing must cease. As soon as possible after the war machinery for making the bank rate effective must bo in working order. The issue of fiduciary notes should be limited by law as soon as practicable. Early resumption of the circulation of gold coin is not necessary or desirable, while the import of gold should be free from all restrictions. Export should be subject to the condition that such gold bullion has been obtained from the Bank lof England for the purpose. 'All countries’ gold reserves should be held by one central institution. All banks should transfer any gold they hold to the Bank of England.
