THE POLITICAL SITUATION.

TAUMARUNUI 7 S POSITION,

The Taumarunui Press of Saturday last states: — There are many signs ;hat events in the political world are. moving more rapidly than many are aware of. Mr R. W. Smith, M.P., has practically decided to stand for the Waimarino electorate, of which Taumarunui is the centre; and this week has been meeting deputations at Manunui and Owhango and making the acquaintance of the new electorate which he intends to fight. Mr Canton and Mr. Shadbolt have both announced their intention of coming forward in the Labour interest, and it rests with the' Labour Federation to make the selection. The Mayor of Ohakune, Mr Barry, has also announced his intention of coming out. On what lines ho has not yet stated. Mr. Shadbolt will shortly place his views before the public, and there is every indication that politics in Taumarunui will be full of interest.
