A fleer cf two hundred machines coiimsly bomb'd the enemy’s back areas in the region of Chateau Porcien, making havoc of the communication and causing heavy losses. FIGHTING ALONG THE OISE. NEW GERMAN LINE REACHED.' Received 10.10 a.m. LONDON,, October 29.. A French communique states: There is fierce fighting on the east bank of the Oise, opposite,. ~Yorly-le-Grand, where the enemy launched several counter-attacks. Further , south, the French pushed the lines as far as the approaches to the Oise, capturing ‘strong points north-west Guise. We also progressed cast of Peron and in the region north-east of Pargny wood. The French are now in contact with the whole of the new enemy line, between the Oise and the Serre. The French advanced north of Horly and west of Chateau Porcien.
AERIAL ACTIVITY. LONDON, Oct 28. Sir Douglas Haig’s . aviation report states: On Sunday we dropped 12 h ' tons of bombs, shot down sixteen enemy machines, and drove down ten. Eleven British machines aro missing. PANIC IN RHINE DISTRICTS. LONDON, Oct 29. The civilian evacuation of West Rhine districts has reached dimensions of panic due to the air raids and persistent rumours that the German army will shortly be withdrawn beyond the Rhine-. There is a tremendous rush to banks, despite bankers’ proclamation urging calmness. Evacuations, house closings, and a constant succession of refuge trains have badly affected the workers at ■Cologne and Dusseldorf, resulting in increasingly riotous peace demonstrations. Even the Socialist Press is fearing the results, and implores the workers to keep their heads.
