POLITICAL PIFFLE.

Probably no otbor member of the National Cabinet has talked more ‘‘bosh” about, what the National Government has done for the people th«n %£ the Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald. In a speech delivered in Wellington after the announcement of the result of the Wellington Central election he talked a lot of drivel about what the Government had done for the dependents cf our soldiers, and how eighty members of Parliament were doing everything possible for the wives and children left behind. As there have been only about fifteen members who have ever stood up in Parliament and fought the battle of the wives and children, Mr MacDonald’s statement is ridiculous. Bnt his excuse for the defeat of the National Government candidate in the Wellington Central election caps all Mr MacDonald’s previous efforts. Here it is: “The chief cause, to my mind, of the defeat of the National Government candidate, is that the Government has handled the affairs of the country so satisfactorily that the majority of the people do not realise that there is a war on, and they dwell upon their different grievances, political, sectarian, business land other matters.” Greater piffle than this hath no National Cabinet Minister ever uttered. —‘‘Wairarapa Times.”
