A nation cannot afford to waste time experimenting with schemes which have proved useless elsewhere. The Liquor Trade of New Zealand suggests that State Control (State purchase and operation) should be tried. South Carolina .abolished the License system and substituted a system of Government dispensaries with Local Option, Year by year number of counties tolerating even Government store decreased, till in 1916 only sixteen counties remained ‘ ‘ wet’ ’ Now State-wide Prohibition prevails, and the present Governor, writing under date of 20th June, 1918, says;—“l do not believe anyone with an open mind can deny that the liquor situation is better now in South Carolina than it has ever been and there has also been a marked, and gratifying movement in moral conditions and in the suppression of vice, M The only i State that tried Government operation now enjoys Prohibition. — (Advt.) i
