ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER. MAN ATTACKS WIFE AND COMMITS SUICIDE. DUNEDIN, Oct 17. The .Superintendent of Police has , received advice from the police at Roxburgh that George Rackley, aged 60, attempted to murder his wife at , Miller’s Flat yesterday, and afterwards committed suicide. Public Service Asociation., A large meeting of all ■ tanks of the Wellington Police decided. ■ unanimously to join the Public Service ' ’Association. Christchurch, Dunedin and Wanganui have already decided to join the Public Service} Association. Although the Finance Minister has mentioned that Canada is paying 54 per cent, free of income tax, it is understood that he is disinclined to make any change from the terms of the last loan, that is 4-1 per cent, free of income tax. The Minister has opposed anything that will tend to make money dearer in New Zealand, and has a lever of proved efficiency in the compulsory clauses of the Finance Act DEATH UNDER OPERATION. * AUCKLAND, this bay. The fire had a big hold when discovered. The wind fanned the flames, making the task of the firemen difficult. It was after midnight before the danger passed. Stocks sad plant practically were destroyed.
