MARRIAGE AND EMIGRATION
A friend who for many years has been in charge of the department or emigration in London at the agency for one of the States of 'Australia informs me that marriage as between .colonial soldiers and Englishwomen promises to become a most prolific : factor of Empire emigration, says - correspondent of the “Pall Mall Gazette.” He reasons in this way. People emigrate to join their friends, as a rule, in the new country. The colonial sor diers, by , taking back English wives, are making new personal and family links between the"Dbminions and the mother country, _ Younger relatives of the said wives, as they grow up, will go out to the country to which these married women have been taken as soldiers’ wives. This will keep emigration within the Empire. The number of Marriages by Canadian, Australian, and New Zealand soldiers astounding. English girls are making money by marrying a colonial soldier, drawing the handsome separation allowance, and earning a salary in office or shop or factory at the same time.
