WOMAN IN GROCERIES.
ARBITRATION OOWS VTEW*. ' WELLINGTON, October 10 The Arbitration Court, in filing the new award in the grocery trade to-day added the following memorandum:— "With regard to the employment of females the Court has hitherto refused to make provision in awards made in this industry for the employment of females, and it is not satisfied that the conditions are such as to make it desirable to depart from that practice. After making, inquiries - from the officer in charge of the Soldiers' Repatriation Department the Court is of opinion that if the employers requiring assistants were to make application to that department there is every reason to suppose that suitable men could be procured upon reasonable terms. The Court is extremely anxious that, so far as practicable, all avenues of employment returned soldiers should be kept open. The Court, therefore, has made no provision for the employment of females, but, following the course adopted recently at Hamilton, it has considered a clause which will enable women who are already engaged in the industry to be retained.
