SAVED FROM MELTING POT.
All the statues of tlie Hohenzollera family which dot the street'flfcnd parks of eßrlin have, by Governnffkt decree, been preserved against the fate of being melted up into war materials. Official despatches coming from Amsterdam say the melifiTg of Statues throughout Germany is going on, witti the commandeering of door knons, bronze hinges, copper roofs and other metals having a war utility, but that sz has been "verboten" to take the statues of Frederick 11, at the entrance of Unter den Linden; the statue of Wlliam I, opposite the Imperial Patace, or any of those representing members of the Hohenzollera family. One of the latest to be removes from its pedestal to be melted "was the Berolina, representing a woman of giant proportions, kin of the patroness of the German capital. It was once one o£ the most popular works of art in Germany.
