“REAL BATTLE NOT BEGUN.”

AMSTERDAM, Oct 5. German newspapers warn their readers that the real battle has not yet begun. General Foch has hitherto been occupied in attracting German, reserves in the hope of forcing a decision before the winter. His main attack will be directed against the Metz Sedan railway and the Briey basin. The “Munchener Neueste Nachrichten” states that* the Kaiser sent to Sofia a military mission which has already caused the principal railway to be occupied by Austro-Gennans. The “Neue Frei Presse” says the Central Pow r ers continue to take the most serious measures to organise a new front in Northern Serbia and Bulgaria in order to preserve Nish and Sofia. The paper admits the impossibility of maintaining a continuous front, but there will probably be a war of movement.
